DISCOVER THE MYSTHICAL CHOQUEQUIRAO

Discover this huge historical site in the middle of green mountains and unique fauna. This archaeological site is waiting to be discover by you!
Day 1: Cusco to ChiquiscaWe leave Cusco at 6.00 am in our private transport and drive towards Cachora, an Andean community located 4-5h from Cusco at 2800m/9184ft, the starting point of the trek where we meet our horsemen and horses. We start our hike climbing for two and a half hours towards the Abra Capuliyoc at 2750m/9020ft, where may we enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the Apurimac River Canyon. We then continue descending for two more hours towards Chiquisca, where we set our camp and spend the night.Meals: L, D
Day 2: Chiquisca to ChoquequiraoWe leave Chiquisca as early as 6.00am to go down to Rosalina Beach, which will take about one hour. We then cross the Apurimac River and start climbing towards Santa Rosa, zigzagging up a steep slope. This climb will take an approximated 2h, and it is important that we leave early so that the heat does not make it more difficult than it has to be. In Santa Rosa, we make a half an hour break, where those who wish may try Cambray, a local sugar cane extract. Afterwards, we continue our hike slowly climbing for two and a half hours until we reach our lunch spot in Marampata. From here we walk another two hours until we reach the archaeological complex of Choquequirao, located at 3103m/10178ft, where we will set up camp and enjoy some free time to explore the terraces and buildings. When the sun starts to set, you might want to sit and contemplate the canyon, where condors are sometimes spotted.Meals: B, L, D

PORCON FARM - CAJAMARCA

RAQCHI-CUSCO

The Raqchi town is located at the south of Cusco, 120 km exactly on the route to Puno city. This community is composed of eighty families which are dedicated on the agriculure, ceramics and recently to the rural tourism. This town has an important inca archaeological site to worship Kon Tici Viracocha Pachayachachic.
In this community the visitor will have the opportunity to be part of the payment to the mother earth as part of their cultural and religious ceremonies, as well to visit a inactive volcano called Kinsachata. In this place the ceramists get a special soil that give to their pieces resistance and a unique quality. You will see the process of manufacture of the ceramics and you can participate with them.
Actually they produce decoration pieces and pottery of excellent quality.

MARIA COMMUNITY

On the route to Kuelap Fortress, there are many communities which men and women live for centuries with the nature, stones, myths, legends and amazing archaeological sites that their ancestors.Maria is a community just 15 minutes to the Kuelap Fortress where the weather is cold but the friendly people there will give you a warm stay and a really unique experience.In this community there are a lot of things to discover, mythic lakes, legends, unique birds like the spatuletail hummingbird, trekking for looking for beautiful animals like el Oso de Anteojos, the only endemic bear of South America, but the most important is to see those high walls and feel that incredible energy of the Kuelap fortress.

ACTIVITIES IN VICOS

During your visit to Vicos you will be staying in a lodge very close to a Quechua-family's home. They will cook for you and ensure that you will have the deepest intercultural experience ever by making you a part of their everyday life. The man will be your personal guide throughout the days and explain you everything about his life. He will show you his lands and the crops he grows on them. He will introduce you to his family and tell you about his kids. You will see them coming back from school and you might even find yourself helping them with their homework or with the household tasks they receive from their mother. She will explain you all about the way she cooks, the ingredients she uses, where they come from and how they will be prepared. It is really great to realise that practically everything in the lives of the Quechua Indians comes from their backyard. It is so interesting to see the way they co-operate with nature, so many things that most people from Western countries have already forgotten for a very long time.

RURAL TOURISM

PATABAMBA & ITS HANDMADE TEXTILES

Patabamba:” means over the fields” in Spanish. It is located over 3800 m.a.s.l. and only 25 km from Cusco. This village is composed of great weavers and farmers that were unknown few years ago. Now their principal economy activities are the agriculture and the handmade textiles.
They make this fantastic works with sheep or alpaca wool. They process this wool and make their own inks of flowers or other plants. This system was used since many centuries ago. Their works are really fantastic always with icons that belong only of the community.
Now 25 families of 120 are associated to promote their wonderful work to give their children education and have extra money to improve their community.
When you visit this unique place, you will contribute with this goal. They will be glad to share with you their way of life.
